This was a long-held dream for Tom, and is now his family home. Low-ceilinged, listed and full of character, the building presented its own challenges. Furniture had to be wrestled through tiny doorways, rooms couldn't be opened up, and every decision had to work within what the building would allow. Tom worked with its quirks rather than against them — and the result is all the better for it.

The house is filled with the things Tom loves most — folk art, decoys, antiques, salvaged pieces and objects gathered over a lifetime of looking. A large Irish dresser transformed the sitting room the moment it arrived. Delft tiles around the snug fireplace inspired the entire colour scheme of the room. One key piece at a time, the house found its own logic.

Warm, comfortable and surrounded by nature, it has the feel of a cabin or lodge that has always been there — a place, as Tom puts it, where you slam the door, get a fire going and feel completely engulfed. More than any other project, this one is a direct expression of Tom's style, and of everything that has shaped the way HÁM thinks about home. Less a finished interior than a continuing conversation between a designer and the place he loves.
