The building's wonky interiors, timeworn surfaces and intricate detailing were embraced rather than smoothed out — the original Cornish Delabole slate floor lovingly restored, its historic character honoured throughout. The kitchen and sitting room were opened up for a more unified flow, then layered with bespoke joinery, specialist paint finishes and carefully chosen textiles.
Cornwall's rich folklore and seafaring history run through every room. Hand-painted Delft tiles by local Cornish makers line the kitchen — mackerel, seagulls and a Stargazy pie motif, a nod to the legend of a Mousehole fisherman. A carved shell above the sitting room door, paint finishes that lend the illusion of age, a painting that slides to conceal the television — nothing is accidental, every detail obsessed over, every piece chosen for what it tells. And when the perfect piece couldn't be found, it was made.
Much of what you see was made by HÁM — the joinery, the island based on a Georgian dairy table, the lantern overhead, the cup handles — sitting alongside antiques sourced from dealers, markets and fairs, each chosen for its patina and past. The result feels layered, timeworn and completely of its place.
