The brief was to create a youthful country house that respected tradition but felt alive, practical and entirely unstuffy. Nobody wanted rooms that would languish behind closed doors. Generous spaces for entertaining sit alongside a butler's pantry, boot room and snug, each thoughtfully considered for the way the family actually lives. The bedrooms are no different — each one given its own identity, its own palette and character, so that every room in the house feels like a destination in its own right.
Every practical space was given as much thought as the grandest room. The butler's pantry, panelled with stable-like partitions, keeps the kitchen calm and uncluttered, a room for caterers when needed. The boot room joinery was designed just as carefully, with everything a busy family needs built in
Classic country house design runs throughout, layered with the playful folk art and characterful details that have become markers of our style. Studio HÁM commissioned artwork sit alongside Ralph Lauren fabrics, pretty Schumacher florals and a slightly rougher cowboy edge in the more private spaces.
The richness of the master bathroom lies in the layers — bespoke panelling and joinery housing linens set the tone, with walls and woodwork painted in a characterful brown typical of the 18th century that grounds the room without ever feeling heavy. Against it, marble, antique brass, generously lined curtains and soft lighting build up the layers in the way we love most.
The centrepiece is a 19th-century English embossed double-ended cast iron bath with a wooden roll top, alongside it our Old House vanity — with its beautifully shaped apron, classic tapered legs and Carrara marble top, inspired by antique wash stands. Carefully chosen artwork and finishing touches complete the picture, making the space feel like a natural extension of the house — characterful, calm and completely considered.
